POLITICS: "FOCUS ON POLITICAL SOCIALISATION IN THE CONTEMPORARY ERA"

consists largely in transmitting information from teacher to student in an educational setting. Political socialisation is a much more diffuse and indirect process. It involves the development of political emotions and identities, issues like: what is my nation? My religion? my political party? as well as the acquisition of information. Political socialisation takes place through the variety of institutions: the family, the peer group, the workplace as well as formal education. Moreover, it is as much influenced by the context of communication as its content. For example, a child's attitude towards politics will be influenced at least as much by his or her experience of authority at home and at school as by what parents and teachers say the child's attitude to politics should be! Finally, political socialisation is a lifelong process in which basic political outlooks mature in response to events and experience; In the same trend, there is no point at which the skill is finally acquired and the learning finally stops. As a result, it is a process without any apparent final product.
