Le CRAN salue l'élection de Miss Israël 2013, femme noire d'origine éthiopienne

Yityish Titi Aynaw, Israélienne de 21 ans d’origine éthiopienne, vient de remporter le concours de « Miss Israël 2013 ». C’est la première fois que la gagnante de ce concours de beauté est d’origine africaine, à l’heure où la question de la représentation et de la visibilité des Juifs noirs en Israël se pose de manière insistante.
Cette désignation intervient après les polémiques de décembre 2012 concernant le programme de contraception longue durée imposée aux Ethiopiennes candidates à l'immigration pour Israël.
« Reste à savoir si cette élection est le fait d'une organisation sincèrement désireuse de promouvoir la diversité dans la société israëlienne, ou s'il s'agit d'un événement ponctuel destiné à apaiser les esprits après le scandale causé par cette contraception sélective », a déclaré Guy-Samuel Nyoumsi, vice-président du CRAN. « En effet, si belle soit-elle, une hirondelle ne fait pas le printemps », a conclu M. Nyoumsi.
Quoi qu'il en soit, le CRAN qui avait soutenu Miss Black en France, se réjouit de cette élection, et invite le gouvernement israélien à mettre en place une politique d’intégration durable des Juifs éthiopiens et des minorités ethniques.

The history of Ethiopian Jews in Israel has been rocked by countless scandals over the years. Since Ethiopian Jews started settlement in Israel, there hasn’t been that many positive news about the relationship of the Jews from Ethiopia and the government and the general popula-tion which mostly from Russia and Europe.
There have been many reports that the Ethiopian Jews are being discriminated in every gov-ernment institution in the country. A few years back the government has been accepting blood donation from Ethiopian Jews and dumping it assuming that their blood might be infected with aids.
Recently it was revealed by the Israeli media that the government has been forcing birth control on Ethiopian women. There are many reports racist attacks on Ethiopian Jews and African immigrants is wide spread in Israel.
In light of the above negative backdrop, having an Ethiopian young lady winning the crown of Miss Israel 2013 is refreshing news for a change. We at Tigrai Online would like to con-gratulate Yityish (Titi) Aynaw on her stunning win.
After winning the Miss Israel 2013 Yityish said, “It’s important to have a first (beauty) queen from the Ethiopian community. Israel has many ethnic groups and many colors, and it’s important to show it to the world.”
